Leicester City have completed the signing of Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles.

Lascelles made over 250 appearances for Magpies, with the majority of those coming as the club’s captain as he established himself as a leader in the side.

The 32-year-old’s move was announced on Tuesday morning, after the deadline had passed as the club prepared to reveal their new signing.

Speaking to the club website, he says he is delighted with the move which will see him apply his trade in the Championship.

“I’m buzzing to get through the door. It’s a great setup here, huge support, the facilities are fantastic. I just can’t wait to help out as much as I can, try to push us up the league and meet the boys tomorrow.

“I’m definitely going to add high standards, professionalism… for me, they’re non-negotiable. It’s the one per cents every day, dragging myself and other people on board and just keeping high standards.

“If you do that in and around the building, on the training pitch, it’ll carry onto the games.

“I’ll give my all. I’ll run through a brick wall for the club in every single game, every single session.”

The defender captained Newcastle for the historic 4-1 Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain in October 2023 and led the side up from the Championship a decade ago.

He should add a ton of experience to Leicester’s defence and could feature in this weekend’s clash with Birmingham City as the club aim to climb up from 16th in the table.
