German playmaker is named in Premier League record goalscorer’s line-up for Matchweek 24

Liverpool’s biggest Premier League win of the season, Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield, has earned two of the top performers a place in Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week for Matchweek 24.

Florian Wirtz scored and assisted in the same league match for the first time, while his fellow summer signing Hugo Ekitike netted two goals in two minutes to take his Premier League tally to 10 for the season so far.

Wirtz now has four goals and two assists in the league, with all of these coming in the last 11 Matchweeks as his influence continues to grow in his first campaign at Liverpool.

Brentford are also well represented in the line-up selected by Shearer, the Premier League’s record goalscorer. The Bees’ goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher and centre-backs Kristoffer Ajer and Sepp van den Berg all being recognised for their roles in the 1-0 triumph at third-placed Aston Villa.

Two Chelsea men — forward Joao Pedro and head coach Liam Rosenior — are selected for their parts in the Blues’ 3-2 comeback win over West Ham United.

Caoimhin Kelleher (Brentford)
“Excellent performance and a deserved clean sheet.”

Kristoffer Ajer (Brentford)
“Won every challenge and header to deny Villa.”

Sepp van den Berg (Brentford)
“Another big reason why Villa failed to score on Sunday.”

Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool)
“Capped an emotional return with Liverpool’s fourth goal against Newcastle.”

Noni Madueke (Arsenal)
“Too hot to handle, scoring his first Premier League goal for Arsenal.”

Alex Scott (AFC Bournemouth)
“Impressive all afternoon and struck in stoppage time to wrap things up.”

Casemiro (Manchester United)
“Scored the opener and assisted Matheus Cunha with a no-look pass.”

Habib Diarra (Sunderland)
“Showed what his club were missing while he was away at AFCON.”

Florian Wirtz (Liverpool)
“Shone with a goal and assist. Now forming an impressive partnership with Ekitike.”

Joao Pedro (Chelsea)
“Came off the bench to continue his goalscoring run and set up the winner.”

Hugo Ekitike (Liverpool)
“A clinical two-goal display from the Frenchman.”

Manager: Liam Rosenior (Chelsea)
“Made the necessary changes to his team at half-time, to overturn West Ham’s 2-0 lead and make it five wins in a row in all competitions.”
