Wolverhampton Wanderers have endured a difficult run in the league this season.

The Premier League side are bottom of the table, trailing 17th placed Nottingham Forest by 18 points. It was no surprise to see Wolves bring in a few faces to Molineux in the winter market.

Rob Edwards’ side have also missed out on few deals. Last weekend, we covered claims from Italy that Torino rejected their late advances to sign Ché Adams.

The former Southampton man isn’t the only one as Wolves also failed to sign FC Twente’s Bart van Rooij. That’s at least what Tubantia, a newspaper local to the Dutch club, are reporting.

It’s claimed the Molineux club arrived on deadline day with a ‘mega offer’ for the 24-year-old.

Wolves contacted the Eredivisie side on Monday and submitted a proposal of over €10m including bonuses.

The figure may not be too high for Wolves. That may not be the case for Twente as their most expensive sale is €14m from Dušan Tadić’s move to Southampton in 2014.

Despite receiving a tempting offer from Wolves for the Dutchman, Twente decided not to accept it. Their technical director, Jan Streuer, has confirmed rejecting the late proposal for Van Rooij.

“We don’t want to lose a key player now. We can’t afford that. We’re on the last day of the transfer window. If we were to say yes, we have nowhere to go,” he said.

When asked whether Twente received a mega offer from Wolves, the director refused to confirm.

However, Streuer explained: “But it was a very good amount.”

Van Rooij has played 23 matches in all competitions this season. The Dutch club signed Alfons Sampsted on a permanent transfer from Birmingham City in the winter market.

Twente have the right-back position well covered with Van Rooij, Sampsted and Gerald Alders and could have sold the former to Wolves.
