Leeds United striker Joël Piroe has turned down concrete interest from the Championship to fight for his place at Elland Road.

That’s according to journalist Joost Blaauwhof. He reports that Piroe was uninterested in leaving Leeds in the January transfer window.

According to his information, Piroe had concrete interest from Middlesbrough, Leicester City, Ipswich Town and ‘the Scottish elite’. We’ll assume it’s Celtic and Rangers for the latter, given the Dutchman has been linked to both.

However, Piroe has ‘remained clear throu’ghout.  A transfer in January isn’t seen as ideal. He will therefore continue at Leeds until at least the summer. It seems he would prefer to compete with Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a place rather than return to the Championship until the end of the season.

That should put an end to any speculation around the striker on deadline day. He simply doesn’t want to leave Elland Road at this point.

There had been speculation for weeks regarding his future given he had fallen behind Calvert-Lewin in the pecking order.

Ipswich were the side pushing the most, with a permanent offer arriving for him last week. there was even claims he’d make an exception for Celtic and join them. Instead, he appears to have stuck to his guns and will instead leave a move until the summer.
