Needing a 2-0 result away at the Etihad in the League Cup while missing our best first-team players? This lineup of Obertan, Aarons, Abeid and Armstrong did just that in 2014.

  1. This really puts things into perspective. We’ve come a long way. The absolute state of that team

  2. There was A LOT of bad days as a Newcastle fan from 2013-2023 but I ALMOST kinda miss having average players and somehow getting a wild result.

I’ll never forget seeing the fans doing the Man City celebration in this match after going 2-0 up. Also I forgot Abeid started for us. Could have sworn he was in reserves purgatory and loaned out endlessly.

And the Man City team we faced that day?

    Caballero

    Sagna

    Demichelis

    Mangala

    Kolarov

    Milner

    Toure

    Fernandinho

    Silva

    Jovetic

    Dzeko

Crazy how far Newcastle have come/progressed in over a decade. The squad of players they have now is stacked with quality.
