Today, we throwback to the Championship game between the two sides at Fratton Park when Paul Jewell’s Blues made it three wins on the trot for the first time in the 2011/12 season.

The hosts went into this game about to go into administration and Town, who were wearing their all black away kit, made a fast start and came close to opening the scoring in the fifth minute when Damien Delaney’s header skimmed the bar.

In the 13th minute, however, Town did take the lead when Daryl Murphy’s header hit the woodwork and the ball fell for Michael Chopra, who reacted quickest to stab the ball home for his 11th goal of the season, and fourth in three games.

Portsmouth had the ball in the net in the 72nd minute when Greg Halford’s long throw from the left appeared to beat everybody before nestling in the net.

But referee Darren Deadman ruled that no-one else had touched it and rightly signalled for a goal kick rather than a goal – by law you can’t score directly from a throw in.

However, Pompey players claimed that the ball had struck Jay Emmanuel-Thomas on the way through.

Town were able to hold on for the 1-0 win as they continued their remarkable record of not being beaten at Fratton Park since 1966. (The Blues have lost three times at Portsmouth since this game…)

Town XI: Lee-Barrett, Edwards (C), Delaney, Smith, Cresswell, Drury, Hyam, Martin, Emmanuel-Thomas, Murphy, Chopra (Scotland 80).
