Arne Slot thanked defender and goal-scorer Ibrahima Konate for cutting short his bereavement leave to help Liverpool beat Newcastle.

The France international had missed the last three matches after the sad loss of his father and was planning to return to England at the end of this week.

But when he saw the problems we had defensively, he called me early this week and said, ‘I want to be back to help the team against Newcastle’. He came back on Wednesday and trained twice with us.

‘Today, not only he scored a goal but he played a great game and the fans were really appreciative throughout the whole game, but definitely at the end when he scored, and his teammates were just as appreciative when he came in the dressing room after the final whistle

  1. What's all this carry on about Konate and his Dad (may he R.I.P.) and how he couldn't play afterwards. He's allowed one day off to go the funeral just like everybody else. The people out here working and grafting all day for f..kall don't get two weeks off because a parent died!! Everybody is acting like he is the only one who's Father ever died!! He should have been back on the job all this time instead of being treated like a jelly baby!! Pathetic!!
