Tottenham captain Cristian Romero has issued a rallying statement following Thomas Frank’s side’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, while also making a dig at the club’s lack of transfer activity. A valiant performance saw the Lilywhites come from a two-goal deficit to pick up a crucial point in their bid to climb up the Premier League table.
Still, Romero admitted there’s work to do to mend bridges with a frustrated fanbase, while questioning the lack of reinforcements during the January window. As it stands, Spurs sit 14th in the table – only three places better than their relegation-threatened finish under Ange Postecoglou last term – which hardly screams progress.
The Argentine defender accepted his share of responsibility for the team’s struggles, but also shifted some of the spotlight onto ENIC. After signalling real ambition in the summer, the ownership group appear to have stood still since, failing to build on their promises of a new era for the Europa League holders and keeping their hands firmly in their pockets throughout January.

Romero Hits Out at Spurs Board As January Transfer Window Shuts

After explaining why he was substituted off at the weekend, Romero appeared to aim a thinly veiled jab at ENIC’s lack of urgency in the transfer market, with Tottenham still looking thin on the ground when it comes to squad depth. He wrote on Instagram (see the full statement below): “Great effort from all my teammates yesterday, they were incredible.
“I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn’t feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available – unbelievable but true and disgraceful. We’ll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together. All that’s left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us, the fans.”
Thomas Frank’s Threadbare Squad

Against Man City, Tottenham boss Thomas Frank could name only four senior outfield players on the bench. Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert, and Pape Matar Sarr all came on, along with 17-year-old defender Jun’ai Byfield, highlighting just how thin the former Brentford manager’s resources are as he looks to make his mark in north London.
Dominic Solanke’s return to the starting lineup helped ease the selection headache, and he made it count by scoring twice. But the likes of James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus, and Micky van de Ven remain sidelined – as do Pedro Porro, Richarlison, and several others – leaving Frank with a threadbare squad to cut through outside noise of his managerial future and see out the rest of the campaign.
