The move has been finalised before the deadline, with Celtic securing vital defensive cover as they prepare for a crucial second half of the campaign. .

The young centre-back made his senior debut for Brentford earlier this season in their Carabao Cup win over Aston Villa, but has struggled for minutes in the Premier League, sitting behind the likes of Kristoffer Ajer, Nathan Collins, Sepp van den Berg, and Ethan Pinnock in the pecking order.

Arthur brings pace and mobility to the Celtic backline, and while he is not expected to be a first-choice starter, he provides valuable rotation and depth, especially with Cameron Carter-Vickers injured.

Celtic are also waiting to see what happens with Stephen Welsh, who could still move. An update on this is expected imminently. In the meantime, Arthur’s arrival ensures that Martin O’Neill has an extra option at centre-half.

The club have now added four players in this window – all on loan – as the focus turns to regaining ground in the league and navigating Europe with a stretched squad.
