Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking at the prospect of relegation to the Championship heavily currently with the outfit bottom of the Premier League, having picked up just eight points in their 24 league games this campaign so far.

The outfit have won just once whilst losing 18 games to put themselves in this situation.

However, with the window now in its final stages, the club could look to make late additions which could increase their chances of bridging the gap and, potentially, making the great escape in the final months of the season.

So far this month, Wolves have signed no one, making the closing days of the window even more pivotal to increasing the depth of their squad.

Now, the outfit have unveiled the signing of Marseille midfielder Angel Gomes, via their official website, on a loan basis, with an option to buy him permanently at the end of the season.

Taking to the official club website, Wolves announced: “England international Angel Gomes has joined Wolves on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.”

The statement continued: “The 25-year-old, whose deal includes an option to buy, makes his return to the Premier League on the back of a short spell with Ligue 1 side Marseille, who he’s represented 20 times, scoring on four occasions.”

Speaking for the first time as a Wolves player, Gomes explained what drove him to join the struggling side, commenting: “Working under the manager Rob [attracted him].”

He continued: “I’ve known him for quite a while and you can see the spirit he’s brought since he came in, you can see it in the lads, you can see it in a lot of the games.

“For me, it was important to join somewhere where I can feel part of a team trying to do something.

“He was the assistant at England under-20s and we got on really well. We had a lot of individual meetings, and I was going through a difficult spell at my former club at the time, and he was someone that was there for me.

“Apart from being a coach at a human level, he’s a great guy, so I’m happy to be here working with him. You can see how he’s changed the environment here, everyone’s taken to him, the tactics, and it’s exciting.

“I was young when I made my debut at United, I was young so learning a lot about the game, so it’s exciting to be back [in the Premier League].

“Being around top level, elite players with England, you take in as much as you can from them.

“Coming here, I’ll try and show what I can do, what I’m about, try and be a positive addition to the team, and try to be as positive as possible to help in all aspects.”

The signing follows links between Gomes and Wolves which emerged earlier this month.

Angel Gomes had previously been at Manchester United where he graduated from the academy before making ten appearances for the first-team.

Now, he has returned to the Premier League for the first time since leaving Old Trafford and could look to make an impact for Wolves in the closing stages of this season.
