Sherborne Police have urged residents to take extra care as further rain could worsen flooding across Dorset in the aftermath of Storm Chandra.

The Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning covering Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset from 12pm on Monday until 9am on Tuesday.

The alert comes as already saturated ground increases the risk of flooding and disruption. Forecasters warn that some homes and businesses could be affected.

Police say the continued rainfall is likely to create hazardous driving conditions, particularly on untreated roads, many of which are found in the area.

Motorists are being urged to drive with caution and allow extra time for journeys.

A Sherborne Police spokesperson said: “With all the rain we have already had, there is potential for further flooding, so please be aware and drive carefully. If you see water covering the road and are unsure how deep it is, don’t risk it — find an alternative route.”

Underdown Hollow, the road linking the A30 at Babylon Hill to Bradford Abbas, remains blocked due to a minor landslip and fallen tree.
