Swindon are looking to have a frantic finish to the transfer window and have their first bit of business wrapped up with United youngster Scanlon, The Adver understands.

The news was first reported by Pete O’Rourke of Transfer Insider, and The Adver can confirm that he will be making the move from Manchester United to Swindon before the deadline hits.

Whilst he is yet to make a senior appearance at Old Trafford, he has been included with the first team on their pre-season tour in 2024 and was named on the bench in a UEFA Europa League clash with Real Sociedad on their run to the final last season.

Predominantly used as a left winger, Scalon is a versatile attacker who can play from the right and behind the striker, and Ian Holloway expects him to be a useful option in his “stack and rack” attacking rotation.

With Michael Olakigbe having established himself as a threat down the right, Swindon have plenty of options through the middle, and believe that Scanlon can offer a similar ability down the left if they are playing with natural wide men.

The youngster also has 20 caps for the Gibraltar national team, scoring twice, once against Liechtenstein and once against the Faroe Islands.

Holloway said: “One’s done, two are pending, and four plates are spinning.

“[Have you got a solution to the left side?] It’ll all take care of itself by the end of it.”

As the 62-year-old says, this looks set to be a busy day at Swindon, with the club hopeful of bringing in three signings before the end of the day.

Scanlon will be the first, with their focus turning to a left-back after that, and then another more experienced forward player.

Whether or not all of these deals can be done in time to feature at Harrogate Town tomorrow remains to be seen, but Town are determined to strengthen their squad.

Holloway said: “If you spin two plates, maybe one of them might fall and drop and smash.

“If you spin four, you’re likely to catch two of them, and the other two might smash. You might have to smash the other two. That’s how you do it. Those two come in first, and sorry to those two.”
