Manchester United youngster Jacob Devaney is in talks to join St. Mirren on loan for the remainder of the season. Devaney captains the Under-21s and is expected to leave for his first taste of senior football.

St. Mirren are working on a loan deal on transfer deadline day. The window shuts at 7pm, and there is hope a deal could be agreed to facilitate Devaney’s move to the Scottish Premiership.

Devaney, a defensive midfielder, has started each game for the U21s in the Premier League 2 this season. The 18-year-old also started in each EFL Trophy game, a competition which pits the U21s against senior teams.

Devaney has delivered consistently strong performances for the U21s and St. Mirren could offer regular football in the Scottish top-flight as they look to avoid relegation to the second tier.

The youngster was born in Barnsley but has represented Ireland’s youth national teams. In November, Devaney started for Ireland’s U21s as they played against England in an Euro U21 qualifying fixture.

Devaney was one of the standout performers for his nation against the likes of Jobe Bellingham, Lewis Hall, Rico Lewis and Jamie Gittens.

United have a history of sending academy players to the Scottish Premiership. Academy graduate Will Fish excelled with Hibernian, while Ethan Williams is currently on loan with Falkirk.

Joe Hugill’s permanent transfer to Kilmarnock was also confirmed last week.
