The 20-year-old Stockport-born midfielder has been struggling for regular United first-team minutes in the 2025-26 campaign ahead of Michael Carrick’s return.

Ruben Amorim had dropped Mainoo from his role in the Man Utd starting XI this season after deploying Bruno Fernandes in the two-man midfield pivot.

However, Mainoo’s place has been restored since United sacked Ruben Amorim and he has been playing alongside Casemiro again under Carrick’s Red Devils tactics.

Kobbie Mainoo’s Man Utd resurgence comes at the perfect time for Michael Carrick

United’s 3-2 win over Fulham has put Michael Carrick’s men back into the Premier League top-four picture after their sensational run of form since January.

Former United manager Amorim struggled to provide stability to the Red Devils’ midfield after the partnership of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in his system.

However, Carrick tossed out Amorim’s divisive tactical system for United and restored Fernandes to his more effective role on the pitch behind the striker.

Fernandes playing at No 10 has solved a simple issue for interim boss Carrick, with Mainoo able to return to the starting XI and to put in steady all-round displays.
