We asked you what still needs to happen before the transfer window closes at 19:00 GMT on Monday.

Here are some of your comments:

Steve: I really don’t understand Newcastle’s recruitment strategy, if they even have one. After some shoddy acquisitions in the summer, the club is going backwards. We need constant reinforcements to push standards up and boost competition. It’s not about particular positions, we need better players everywhere.

Brian: Not possible to bring in any useful players now as we have not been active or good enough in this transfer window. But there are players that should go – accept the £20m for Joe Willock and release Jacob Murphy, Nick Pope, Jacob Ramsey, Anthony Elanga, Kieran Trippier, Yoane Wissa, Nick Woltemade – as a minimum – in this window or the summer and replace with better quality players.

Alex: We could say we need to recruit in most positions. I’d say priority is we need better wingers. I was so disappointed with the summer transfer window, we recruited awfully and wasted so much money. We need to upgrade on both wings, and possibly upfront as Woltemade and Wissa don’t look a good fit for our style so far. However, I’m not expecting us to do any business at all despite the injury list, hectic fixture schedule and poor league position.

Susan: Need a new goalkeeper first of all. Also another right-back and a decent striker. It is ridiculous the way we have failed to close out games after starting so well.

Steve: I’m pretty sure Allan Saint-Maximin would love to come back, he loved us and we did in return. He’s available as a free agent so we have time. He’s fit and ready to go too. This would appeal to thousands of the fans so do it Eddie.

Eric: We need a midfield enforcer to break up opposition dominance. What about Andre Gomes at Marseille? I’d take the money for Willock, who has rarely lived up to expectations.
