  1. He was excellent. But I don’t think Arteta is going to play with two deep lying playmakers (Martin O and Martin Z). He wants an attacking midfielder (Kai) to stretch the defence and provide some space for Gyokeres. He’ll prefer Martin Z because he is better defensively and will attack the box. So important these days to have deep lying playmakers who burst furward and disrupt man-to-man.

  2. Our play was more direct in general this game, but I’m glad Odegaard got the message, he also knew when to slow it down as well.

  3. I think getting benched might have lit a fire in his ass. He looked more commanding in passing and tackling

  4. Maybe it was as simple as him feeling he must drop deep to carry the ball, and he must play safe as drilled. Maybe he needed explicit permission to play further forward?

Given the way Mikel micromanages every movement during a match, I don’t buy his comment that dropping deep and sideways passing is Odegaard “expressing himself”

A big part of it was also Rices positioning. Played more as a deeper pivot which gave Odegaard and Havertz to play closer to Gyokeres which in turn made him look good as well.

  6. 1:30 remaining was lovely. Confident aggressive progressive passing. Anyone else think the ball was out in the box a lot more today. I was fully expecting martinelli to pass it backwards before he crossed for Gyokeres goal

ode must have a serious sinus problem he is constantly trying to clear his nostrils 😂

He could be a great super sub down the stretch. I think we have to stick with two up top like we did today. Whether that second striker is Havertz or Eze, that strategy shift really worked. Three 6/8 mids to start games is too conservative in my opinion given our quality at the back. More of today please!

    Thank you.

He has become a game manager versus a game changer. That’s just my opinion. I think he is a great guy to bring in off the bench after we take a lead in the second half to help and see out games. I think he lacks the spark and pace and physicality to start when we are at 0-0 and looking to open the flood gates. Just me. Thank you.

Gotta love Cala hugging Ode first on the Jesus goal. You can tell they want him to kick on and it’s great to see

  11. Pass out to rice on the left at :49 is amazing. Head down, facing opposite direction, lays a pin point pass to rice and sets him up for a run right to the box

  12. When Odegaard doesn’t hesitate and second guess every touch and potential pass he’s outstanding. Amazing what playing with even a little confidence does to a player.

  13. That kind of first time pass from Odegaard to Rice that led to the galloping run is what we’ve been missing in attack.

  14. What I love most about this team and staff is they can manage great turnarounds and reset tactics when they get stale. Having Kai back gives us that, Martin and a couple other players just need to take a step back and come back refreshed. What I dont feel great about is the turnarounds and resets sometimes feel like they come a couple games after really needed.

  15. This was much better from Odegaard. Often the low block we kept seeing was due to slow passing allowing them to regroup but today our passing was faster hence only three defenders in the box at times.

The backspin/fade on the ball through to Martinelli was sublime. Didn’t notice it the first few times I saw it but wow.

Im not worried about Odegaard. I’ve seen his quality time and time again before the injury riddled season. He will get back there

  18. His other biggest problem is he’s stopping his runs too early – instead of committing fro running at goal and receiving a 1-2 or pulling people forward.

This is why saka is so more neutered. Ode lays off then drops back. He need to run straight into the box there. He wants to break off a counter but even if he does he as no forward options

  19. I love that ball to Martinelli because it’s exactly what we haven’t been doing. It could be seen as almost a wasted through ball as it isn’t a classical “player in on goal” but it stretches the play and gets them running backwards, making the space for Gyokeres to move in the box.

  20. It’s the quickness of it. First or second touch passing. Defense doesn’t have time to get in their block.
