Lisandro Martinez: “You need people who understand your quality, and I think he [Carrick] is doing that. He’s getting the best out of everybody.“ “For me, when you touch my heart, I will give everything for you and he’s touched it already and you can see that on the pitch we give everything.”

    **Full quotes:**

Lisandro Martinez: “If you play for Manchester United it’s because you have something. We know how important it was to win the last two games.

“Doesn’t make any sense when the next game you don’t play in the same way and standard.

“We are ready for the next game. I think the mentality is there which is really important and we have to keep showing.”

**Lisandro Martinez:** “Difference Carrick has made? In a short time, for me I’ll say I’m really impressed with him, his body language, energy, communication, the way he trusts the players, the way he talks and connects with everyone. It’s unbelievable. The staff as well, very close to the players.”

**Lisandro Martinez:** “I think if you play for this club, it’s because you have something.

**“You need people who understand your quality, and I think [Carrick] is doing that. He’s getting the best out of everybody, not just the players, but the staff.** The standard, structure, and demands, are really important.

**“And for me, when you touch my heart, I will give everything for you, and he touched it already and you can see that on the pitch we give everything”.**

Two things are getting harder and harder for me:

    1. Not think about Carrick as the best option for the permanent job.
    2. My penis.

What?! Telling them they’re the worst team ever doesn’t motivate them?! Who would have thought it…

  4. What a refreshing take instead of “we need to suffer this team isn’t good enough the youngsters bla bla bla” absolute poison that twat was

  5. It’s so crazy how I can go from “this team needs open heart surgery” to “we’re winning everything” with just two games. Life of a united fan I fear

  6. Crazy that telling your players they’re the shittest to ever wear the badge isn’t gonna infill them with confidence to perform. Crazy that, eh?

  7. Stop wearing that top, guys. I’ve managed to convince myself not to buy it, but every time I see it I waver.

Also, the fans who sounded alarm bells that Martinez would be upset by Amorim leaving seem to have been barking up the wrong tree.

I’ve thought for quite some time that there’s a gap with the ‘new generation’ of managers where they’re so focused on tactics and statistics they are neglecting the psychological part of management. That’s where Alex was so good, putting his arm around someone when they needed it, shouting at the team when they needed it. He understood that making the team feel the right way was, probably, the most important part. Mourinho did as well (although he did it by making the team feel everyone was against them all the time). Our last few managers haven’t done that – most notably Amorim – and it’s been clearly missing. If Carrick can do that (and it’s not just a “he’s better than the last guy at it” thing) then he will be successful.

  9. A glowing endorsement. I really hope this all translates to continued positive performances on the pitch.

  10. I’m no football manager, but from my experience working with and leading teams, I think Amorim’s biggest failing was his ego. A manager’s job is to win football matches, and you do that by maximizing the plan and your team’s ability to perform the plan, the latter of which covers the ability to keep a team motivated, bought in. That only happens if you look at your team as co contributors, rather than as pawns executing your perfect imagination of a system.

He was so woefully wedded to the idea of implementing his system that he stopped asking himself how he could maximise his team’s performances today in a way that builds towards his goal. At a big club like united, your chances of winning are tied to your ability to build coalitions and lead everyone together. Which is why Ole would have been a good shout to bring back, and which is why I’m begging for ancelotti for one last rodeo. You can’t just be a tactician, you should be an all round leader
