Fenerbahçe are still showing interest in Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta despite the player’s desire to play in one of the top 5 leagues.

Earlier this month Sport Witness covered reports Fener were trying to convince Crystal Palace by offering Jayden Oosterwolde as part of the deal. The Dutch central defender has been a long-term target for the Selhurst Park club.

With the recent departure of Marc Guéhi, they may need to bring in a replacement central defender this month.

The Istanbul giants value the Dutchman in the region of €25m, but it still seems a long shot that they could use him to sign Mateta, due to the player’s’ desire.

However, Fenerbahçe will remain patient in their pursuit of the Crystal Palace player. The Super Lig window doesn’t close until February 6th.

Fanatik say the Yellow Canaries could table a good offer for the Frenchman if they can offload either Youssef En-Nesyri or Jhon Duran.

En-Nesyri was on the verge of heading to Serie A, following Juventus’ attempts to loan him. A deal fell through last week due to the Moroccan demanding a permanent transfer.

Duran has also been linked with a move in this window, with a return to the Premier League a possibility. Everton, West Ham and Nottingham Forest are all monitoring the former Aston Villa player’s situation.

If Fenerbahçe are able to move on one of those players, then this would free up their foreign quota. Selling En-Nesyri would also raise transfer funds.

Premier League interest for Crystal Palace forward

Despite Fener’s intentions the 28-year-old could remain in the Premier League, with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur showing interest.

Juventus and AC Milan want to loan the France international, which is likely to be rejected by Crystal Palace.

Mateta has made 34 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring ten goals. He’s contracted to the Eagles until June 2027.
