De Ligt was probably Manchester United’s most consistent player of the season before he got injured but he’s now been missing for nearly 2 months.
So what has actually happened? I’ll piece together everything we know, what’s been said and what we’ve seen from De Ligt, if only just to give you a complete overview. When we’ll see him back in action is anybody’s guess.

When De Ligt does return, do you think he'll be back in the starting XI for Carrick?
Hopefully he can get some positive progress, I reckon the next two games, barring Arsenal, he’ll be back. I agree that it’ll be tough to immediately replace Maguire or Licha though, I think Carrick will keep Maguire and Licha for the rest of the season
Not playing 60+ games this season means you don’t rush him back until 100%. Then when it’s the big European push towards the back end you have him ready and fresh legged to dominate at the back like he was

As a physio who deals with acute back problems his injury can only be disc related. No other back problems can last this long. They are very easy to make worse by everyday activities and doing the wrong rehab

de ligt and martinez is the long term probably best go with that, if they sign a CM then loaning out Yoro isnt a bad decision for rest of season

this is why Bayern sold him. The fans liked him. He was a good footballer, but he was injury prone. It was just a matter of time especially considering it's a back issue.
It might not all be physical. Man is going through a divorce/separation.
With the Carrick style I think all are CBs are exactly the type he needs but depending on pase moving forward and break through de light is slightly better more composed. Ideally Yoro would thrive in this system once he gains more experience. Harry is also amazing in this system in my opinion so the decision will be very tough to make

I would put De Ligt and Maguire/Yoro then play Martinez as CDM instead of Ugarte. I liked the look of Martinez at CDM in that game the other week

De ligt is our best defender, if hes in form and fit he goes straight in no questions asked. He can pass, he can tackle, he can manmark, he has experience and has a leader mentality. Maguire has been solid sure, but de ligt is a class in his own. Hes pretty much at the peak of his potential right now.

Back injuries are or can be very complicated especially lower back. Hope its nothing to do with the sciatic nerves. If it is…. ( I went to pick a towel up and something down there touched, took 3+ months before I could run again).If he recovers and is back to normal i think he will be playing centerback of course but will be sharing the position.

Probably the best thing to come out of the ETH years, outside of Kobbie Mainoo coming up, was the partnership of Martinez and DeLigt. When they are both healthy they should be the starting pair. Maguire is back at his best but some of the issues he had in the past are still there. Yoro and Heaven should play as a pair and should be worked in to games to replace Martinez and Deligt when they can to keep the first choice duo fit. Next season there should be plenty of time for all 4 when there are more games to play again with domestic cups and hopefully Europe if United can squeeze in.

I think it's more a case of personal issues regarding his estranged wife rather than an injury
I knew something would happen after a series of interviews about how a great season he was having
I think Carrick picked Maguire for the City game because he knew we would do a lot of box defending. He will probably pick him against Arsenal for the same reason. I think when we play games where we are expected to have more of the ball, Carrick will prefer Yoro/De Ligt
Miss Matty but I'd rather have him be back to his full monster self than bringing back an 80% version of him that then either plays cautiously or, worse, gets injured again. He's been so very good for us this season, let's not rush him back before he's ready.
I hope Carrick and Steve Holland are not coming with “English bias”. When everyone is fit, that back four is Mazaraoui, De Ligt, Licha and Shaw. The rest of the team can be tinkered depending on the opponent and we’ll be fine. There’s a little bit of depth there. Yoro x Heaven as backups. Maguire should be moved on this summer. His time at the club has been done!
Need him back. Maguire can't play in games we'll need a higher line and honestly, Lisandro Martinex isn't exactly a great at positioning himself.

Given the problems we have had in the past with injuries and bringing back players to soon, and whilst we have needed him, better to be safe than sorry.
