Leeds United have formally confirmed that Jack Harrison has joined Fiorentina on loan for the rest of the season.

The winger landed in Florence on Friday to complete his medical and was later pictured in club gear. Harrison has played just 13 times for Leeds this season, with only one Premier League start to his name.

As reported by Leeds Live last week, the deal contains an option-to-buy clause of €7million (£6.06m). Harrison cost £11m when permanently signed by Leeds in 2021.

The 29-year-old has played just one Premier League game since November 9 – a late cameo appearance away at Brentford in December. Harrison started both of United’s cup games this season albeit in his unnatural position of left-back.

Daniel Farke’s formation switch from 4-3-3 to 3-5-2 was not conducive to game time opportunities for Harrison, who effectively had to compete with the in-form Gabriel Gudmundsson for minutes at wing-back.

Despite animosity from sections of the Leeds fanbase over the summer, Farke was willing to reintegrate Harrison into his squad following his two-year loan at Everton, which was prompted by a loan-exit clause in his contract signed in April 2023.

Having been booed in pre-season, Harrison won a few critics around with spritely cameo showings from the bench early in the season.

However, a lacklustre showing upon starting the 2-0 defeat to Burnley and his concession of a penalty against Nottingham Forest, sandwiched between frustrating cup appearances, dimmed any chance of a break-in to Farke’s first XI.

Harrison – whose contract lasts until 2028 – becomes the second loan player to exit this window following the departure of Harry Gray, who started his first senior game in his career for Rotherham United on Saturday.

A statement from Leeds United read: “Leeds United can confirm Jack Harrison has joined Italian side ACF Fiorentina on loan until the end of the 2025/26 season.

“The winger will join La Viola as they look to climb the Serie A table, with the team currently just outside of the relegation position.

“Harrison has featured 13 times in all competitions for the Whites this season and now heads to Stadio Artemio Franchi for the remainder of the campaign. Everyone would like to wish Jack well during his time away from the club.”
