Newcastle United are already looking to improve their productivity in front of goal, according to reports – with a move being weighed up for Brentford star Kevin Schade.

Schade joined Brentford from Bundesliga outfit Freiburg in January 2023, and that deal was made permanent for just north of £20million back in July of the same year.

Since then, the rapid attacker has become one of their best players, notching a series of goals and assists to make the Bees one of the most feared outfits in the league on their home turf. And that has seen Newcastle reportedly have an interest in signing him to further their own European aspirations.

Report: Newcastle ‘Keeping Close Eye’ on Kevin Schade

The report by CaughtOffside states that Newcastle are one of the clubs who are keeping a close eye on Brentford star Schade, though they could face strong competition for his services.

Eddie Howe’s men have shown an interest in the German speedster, and they view him as a player who can add pace and depth to their attacking options alongside Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy.

Anthony Elanga has largely faltered since he made the move to St. James’ Park, whilst Schade can also play up front in the absence of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa – and at the age of just 24, he’s already scored 19 goals in 88 games for the Bees in the Premier League, just shy of one in four.

Although Newcastle are in the mix for the five-time Germany cap, Brentford aren’t willing to sell their rising star. He’s under contract until 2028 and a Germany international, meaning that the Bees are in a strong position, as opposed to the one they found themselves in with Newcastle earlier in the campaign when they were forced to sell Yoane Wissa with one year left on his deal.

That may change in the summer, with Brentford’s valuation of around £50million setting the tone for negotiations. Schade already has six goals from out wide this season, and alongside Igor Thiago, he’s a major reason for Brentford’s rise up the table and into the European spaces under Keith Andrews, being labelled ‘one hell of a threat’.

Signing Kevin Schade Wouldn’t Make Much Sense for Newcastle at Present

Whether Newcastle need Schade remains to be seen.

The German talent will be battling for minutes with Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes on the left flank, and it feels as though his signing could mark a slight ‘overkill’ from Eddie Howe in that respect.

If anything, it would be up front where Schade makes his mark. Woltemade is their main striker, having scored seven goals in the Premier League this campaign, and Wissa is proven in the top-flight with almost 50 goals to his name.

But Schade’s youth and ability to play across the front three could land him a key role, and potentially even force the likes of Elanga out of the club.
