Steven Schuamcher has confirmed that Brighton and Hull City have decided against activating a recall clause in the loan contract, leaving the way clear for them to stay with the club until May.

Burstow still tops the club’s goalscoring charts with seven despite not having hit the back of the net since October but the Bolton boss says he has seen positive signs in his performances of late that suggest his confidence is coming back.

“It’s positive news,” he told The Bolton News. “It can make them both settle down, make everyone else settled down.

“Mason was brilliant for us at the start of the season. He was one of the best strikers in the division. So dangerous and lively.

“Obviously, his goals have just dried up a little bit since the start of October, so we want him to get back and find the net again for us. In the last couple of weeks, I’ve seen him looking sharp and sane and looking lively. His movement’s been good.

“He hasn’t had loads of opportunities to score, but when he does get them, hopefully he’s confident enough to take it.”

Cozier-Duberry’s last goals for Wanderers were in November against Port Vale but the winger has still managed to keep his performance levels and creativity up in the meantime.

Schumacher admits that both players will have to get back on the goal trail if his side are to get their promotion chase back on track.

“They need to contribute,” he said. “And Amario has. He still is. He’s got seven goals, I think, and an equal amount of assists. He is seriously contributing in the first half of the season. We are delighted that they’re going to continue with us.

“It’s also shown that we’re doing good work with them because the club sense that they’re developing.

“We need all of the forward department to get going again and start scoring because that has been one of the reasons why we have struggled for results lately. We haven’t been clinical with the chances that we have created.”

Schumacher ha confirmed that the return of Teddy Sharman-Lowe and the subsequent signing of Jack Bonham and David Harrington on a permanent basis leaves one loan slot free – and that the club intend to use that before the close of the transfer window.

The other two loanees in the squad, Middlesbrough’s Marcus Forss and Toulouse’s Ibrahim Cissoko, are not understood to have recall clauses.

Both players have indicated that they would be open to a permanent stay with Bolton – and Schumacher admits they have something to prove before that could be considered.

But with Cissoko in particular, he believes there are some mitigating circumstances in his recent displays.

“Ibby (Cissoko) is someone who hasn’t played as many games as what we would have expected,” he said.

“Now, his partner had a baby a couple of weeks ago, which sometimes can be very difficult. I experienced it with both of my kids, where it disrupts you. Knocks you for six.

“He is going through that period at the moment where he needs to get himself really going physically in a brilliant condition so he can show his talent that he’s got. He’s struggled a little bit the last few weeks.

“And Marcus, again, being someone who has played well for us, but we want a little bit more from the goalscoring as well.

“Apart from the two league goals against Wigan, coincidentally, he hasn’t managed to score other than in the Vertu games.

“He is still doing okay with us. But again, like all of the forward line, we just keep pushing them and keep needing to do better.”
