Donyell Malen will complete a permanent transfer to Roma in the summer if the Serie A club qualifies for Europe, according to reports in Italy.

Aston Villa’s Malen is in Italy to undergo a medical at Roma ahead of leaving Villa Park on loan for the rest of the season.

And it is said there will be a clause in the deal, activating a permanent transfer for €28m (£24m) if Roma qualify for any European competition for next season – which looks a certainty.

Malen only joined Villa from Borussia Dortmund last January and the striker has made an impact this season.

With seven goals across all competitions, only Morgan Rogers has scored more for Villa in 2025/26.

Malen will depart after just 35 Premier League appearances, of which seven were starts, to join a Roma side currently fifth in Serie A under Gian Piero Gasperini.
