Celtic have reportedly made an “initial enquiry” with Callum Wilson’s representatives as he nears the West Ham exit.
Wilson is one of names who has been heavily linked with a switch to Glasgow’s east end as the club scramble for a new striker this month. The 33-year-old is expected to become a free agent in the coming days as he prepares to rip up his contract with the relegation-threatened Premier League side.
The Parkhead side, Coventry and Sevilla have all been namechecked over a potential deal – while Everton have reportedly added the nine-time England to their wishlist this week. Celtic are not said to have made their move for the frontman.
The Hoops have “made an initial enquiry to the player’s side only”, according to talkSPORT. It is claimed that the Scottish champions are aiming to “establish if Wilson’s contract going to be terminated.”
It is noted that Wilson will still have “relatively high wage expectations” if his contract is ripped up. Talks over a termination of the forward’s deal appear to be dragging on.
Boss Nuno was asked about Wilson’s status at the club during the pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Tottenham. He responded: “We are working on ins and outs.
“I feel that we need to rebalance our squad and bring in more options for some positions and also find the best solutions for the players that are not having minutes, to go and proceed with their careers.

“We are working very hard as a club to find the right ones, in what is a very tricky transfer window to operate. We have to make good decisions and we cannot afford mistakes.”
Following the win over Falkirk, boss Martin O’Neill reiterated Celtic‘s desperate need for a striker amid links with Croatian hitman Franko Kovacevic, Chelsea misfit David Datro Fofana and Lorient’s Mohamed Bamba.
The veteran gaffer said: “You can tell that we definitely need to get a centre forward.
“Young Johnny Kenny has done really fine in the games but I think it’s really harsh to put that kind of pressure on a young lad.
“We’re looking for help. I’m not diverting to your thing, but I’m just not answering you! But you know, I am trying. I know I haven’t done anything since yesterday but I am trying. We will definitely get people in.”
