Newcastle United have completed the signing of Australian international defender Kaitlyn Torpey on a permanent deal.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Magpies this evening.
The 25-year-old defender makes the move to Tyneside off the back of a spell playing her football in the American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) with Portland Thorns.
Torpey started out with Ninja A-League club Brisbane Roar. Spells with Melbourne City and Preston Lions followed before the player joined San Diego Wave where she won the NWSL Challenge Cup.
On the international stage, Torpey has been capped by Australia on 15 occasions while she has scored two goals for her country.
After joining Newcastle United, Torpey said “It’s very surreal being here and getting it all sorted, but I’m very excited to get started.
“I’ve had a little break now, and I’m excited to get my boots back on and get out there for the club. It is a big second half of the season, so I’m excited to work. With Newcastle, you can tell they are growing quickly so it’s an exciting project.”
Torpey will be available for selection for Newcastle United once the relevant international clearance has been received.
