Former scout Mick Brown has backed Liverpool to make a move for Brentford right-back Michael Kayode, who is famed for his long throw expertise.
The Reds find themselves short of options at right-back, with Conor Bradley ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury away to Arsenal last week.
Jeremie Frimpong was more of a wing-back for Bayer Leverkusen, so he isn’t a complete natural in the role, and he also hasn’t been without fitness problems since arriving last summer.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown talked up the idea of Liverpool looking to sign Kayode from Brentford, beating Manchester City to his signature:
“City will keep an eye on him and his progress. It might be something they look to do in the summer if he continues to impress, but they’re not going to be the only team interested in him. Whenever there’s somebody performing at a high level in the Premier League, there’s going to be interest from other clubs across Europe.
“He’s got that Premier League experience behind him now where he’s proving he can perform, and in a position where a lot of clubs will be looking. Liverpool could do with a player like that in their current situation, he’s certainly one who would fit the bill if he was to become available.
“They’d like to bring in a new right-back, so maybe that’s an option, but as I said before a lot will depend on Brentford and they’re not going to be willing to let him go.”
Kayode a strong option for Liverpool in 2026
There is plenty to admire about Kayode as a player, with the 21-year-old a young player who has hit the ground running for Brentford since arriving from Fiorentina in 2025.
He has shone in various facets of his game, not least his incredible long throws, with Bees manager Keith Andrews saying of him back in September:
“Michael is a very unique individual; he blew everyone away with his personality when he signed. He has such desire to be as good as he can be on a daily basis. He takes on every challenge. I’m not surprised in the slightest he’s been so good.”
Kayode could be seen as a superb long-term option for Liverpool, and with Bradley an injury-prone figure, and Frimpong potentially happier as a winger, he could be a future starter at right-back.
