Newcastle United have made an official announcement that Cathal Heffernan has made a permanent move.
The 20 year old defender joining Harrogate Town.
Newcastle United stating: ‘Cathal Heffernan will now join Simon Weaver’s side who are in their sixth consecutive season in League Two following their first promotion to the English Football League in 2020. Everyone at Newcastle United would like to wish Cathal the very best of luck as he takes the next step in his career.’
The then 18 year old joined Newcastle United in the summer of 2023 following his departure from AC Milan.
He quickly established himself in the United Under 21s and regularly captained them.
Cathal Heffernan has made 19 appearances in all competitions this season below first team level, scoring three goals.
He made his senior debut at the age of 16 for hometown club Cork City in October 2021 and, after joining Milan on loan for the second-half of the 2021/22 campaign, made a permanent switch to the San Siro the following summer.
Cathal Heffernan is the sixth young player to move out of St James’ Park so far this month, either permanently or on loan.
Antonito Cordero has moved on loan to Cadiz, Joe Brayson on loan to Morpeth Town, Ben Parkinson sold to Falkirk. Then most recently, Harrison Ashby and Joe White both going to Bradford City until the end of the season.
