Everton and Sunderland meet for the first time in the FA Cup since 2015, with both teams vying for a place in the fourth round. Both Premier League teams are sitting comfortably and are unlikely to fall into any relegation scrap, meaning there is scope for an enjoyable cup run that both sets of supporters will be excited about.

The two teams faced each other in November, playing out a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light, with Iliman Ndiaye opening the scoring for the visitors after 15 minutes. Granit Xhaka equalised after half-time in what has been an exceptional season for the Swiss captain and the Black Cats.

Team news

As many as eight Everton players could miss the cup match following a chaotic end to their 1-1 draw with Wolves.

Michael Keane was sent off for a hair-pull on Wolves forward Tolu Arokodare, which was deemed violent conduct after a VAR review and he has been given a three-match ban, starting with the match against Sunderland.

Jack Grealish, similarly, was given a red card for mocking the referee and he will miss the tie through suspension.

Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye are away competing at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jarrad Branthwaite, Charly Alcaraz and Seamus Coleman have all been injured.

For Sunderland, Reinildo Mandava, Noah Sadiki, Arthur Masuaku and Bertrand Traore have all been eliminated from AFCON and have various chances of playing.

Habib Diarra and Chemsdine Talbi are still on international duty, Wilson Isidor will require a late fitness test and Aji Alese is recovering from a long-term injury.
