Whilst he’s right – some players have been utter dross – it’s becoming a theme of his analysis: blame. The only concerning similarity between him and Ange; a complete lack of acceptance of some portion of responsibility for a performance. It never seems to be his tactical setup that produces poor performances, rather the player’s execution.

It was one of Cooper’s greatest strengths – shouldering responsibility, building a sense of connection between himself and players. Probably a reason why he was so effective at developing young ones.

Interested in your takes.

  1. Completely agree. As bad as some individuals were I think tonight’s comments come across extremely badly on Dyche.

Getting very bored of listening to him blaming refs, players, anything he can think of. The chip on his shoulder is huge and he sounds increasingly desperate.

  2. Cooper did a great job of defending players, but I don’t think he had too many first half performances like that.

I was delighted when we signed McAtee, he and Harvey Elliott were sensational during the U21s, and hoped he would carry that over to us. He’s totally lost though.
Morato was awful. So many mistakes.
Zinchenko is earning money under false pretenses.

I think he’s right to call those out. Whilst he picked the team, he also made the changes which improved things.

I think players who are that poor and that disinterested should be called out personally.

  3. Dyche is right. Rip them to shreds, tell them this is why youre not starting and quit knocking on the door until you can turn up.

    Behind closed doors.

Cooper knew the way. Take the blame publicly.

Im just so fucked off we fell for the “we sold Cole palmer too cheap so now you pay through the nose” shit for mcatee

  4. They’ve played unacceptable in pretty much every first half since the Brighton game TBH. Slow off the mark and sloppy, almost always concede the first goal and chasing games.

All of that sits with the manager to sort out. It’s fine picking on individual players at full time but we all spent prematch looking at the XI hoping that, for example, McAtee finally shows up.

Honestly, I think it’s going to be come clearer and clearer over the next few months he won’t be here in August and we’ll probably ramp up our interest in Marco Silva – on the basis we survive.

The vibes of playing under Brian Clough and loving the club buy you time but eventually only get you so far if we aren’t performing.

  5. He’s 100% right here though. Tonight, players had a chance and didn’t take it.

At the end of the day though, staying in the Prem is much more inportant than the FA Cup, so if something had to be sacrificed, reluctantly this was it

  6. Something I do think we did is buy players for potential. There’s a reason the Bundesliga/development teams have an interest in McAtee, Kali, Ndoye, etc. They’re future talents, not current ones. Failure in Dyche to address that and deflect is extraordinary poor management imo.

As for Dyche, I agree the play was unacceptable, that everyone looked dross. But his tactics got beat by fucking Phil Parkinson. I will appreciate his mentality building and our ability to come back under pressure, but that was pathetic, and the more he outputs blame after performances like that the more I think it’s obvious Marinakis pressures him.

I think we need to do a better job with the signings. Others have gotten a lot out of players who didn’t perform as well, I think there’s a lot to our players. Edu fucked up obviously with style of play & man management, but we still have a shit load of talent, and I think we’ll get lots out of them if we get the right men. It’s a shame we rushed and chose Ange to replace Nuno, because honestly, some would probably get so far with this squad.

I’ll be honest. I think this is slightly less about the players themselves and more about Edu and also about getting some new players in.

“The players you signed are shit. I need some support in the form of some signings.”

His comments are not out of place in the slightest, what would you expect him to say in relation to that first half, there’s no positives and no sugar coating it, he said what needed to be said.

I’m not into this say it behind closed doors bollocks, represent the badge when you play, you’re getting paid a fuckload for it, and if you’re not earning your money, you need to be told about it, in public.

You’d be fuming if he had positives to say about the first 45.
