Since the change of ownership, Chelsea have heavily focused on signing some of the best young talents from around the world and largely overlooked the need for experience and proven quality. The problem with youngsters is that it is hard, almost impossible, to predict how their senior careers will pan out.
It does not always come down to talent. Some are never able to make that adjustment. There can be multiple reasons behind that.
Kendry Paez is proving to be a great example. Coming out of the famed Independiente del Valle academy, many believed that he was more first-team ready than Estevao at one point in time. But while the Brazilian has continued to go from strength to strength, the 18-year-old with 23 Ecuadorian international caps to his name already, is struggling.
Paez was sent out on loan to Strasbourg in the summer but has not exactly met expectations there. His chances at Chelsea won’t be helped by the fact that Liam Rosenior has now been appointed by the club.
Ipswich Town look set to sign Chelsea player this January
As reported by Mustafa Kuratas, Chelsea are considering recalling Paez, whom they loaned to Strasbourg. They are thinking about loaning him to Ipswich Town.
A loan to Ipswich Town might not be a bad idea if you are Paez. Firstly, you are going to get a taste for the English game, even if it is down in the Championship. Secondly, the Tractor Boys are playing winning football at the moment, and sit third in the table. That could be vital experience if he wants to have a long career at Stamford Bridge.
Paez’s time at Strasbourg has not gone according to plan. But it is far too early to give up on him. At 18 years of age, most are breaking into the first-team picture. He already has 23 international caps to his name. This is a special talent in need of being nudged in the right direction.
