  1. Why Cancelo suits Flick’s high defensive line: Flick’s teams compress space by pushing defenders up, which naturally gives fullbacks more freedom to advance and join attacks.

Cancelo’s profile: He’s not a traditional fullback, he thrives as an inverted wingback or wide playmaker, drifting inside to create overloads and deliver progressive passes.

Attacking. Flick’s philosophy relies on aggressive pressing and quick transitions. Cancelo’s ability to step into midfield or overlap wide makes him a perfect outlet in both phases.

Positional rotations, Flick encourages fluidity Cancelo can interchange with wingers, offering unpredictability and stretching defenses.

Cancelo could become a key creative hub, similar to how Joshua Kimmich or Alphonso Davies operated under Flick at Bayern.

Against deep blocks, Cancelo’s crossing and cut-inside passing could be decisive in breaking stubborn defenses.

I think the real question is whether Flick would use Cancelo more as an inverted fullback (tucking into midfield) or a classic overlapping wingback. Each role changes the dynamics of the attack

  2. Dude last time I watched Cancelo was during the CWC in the summer against man city I believe. He was absolutely killing it in that game. He’s only 31 and can still play 3-4 great seasons. Heck even the fact that he can comfortably play LB and RB even as a backup is already a huge win. But honestly, I don’t think neither Kounde nor Balde has shown concrete proof that they outperform cancelo going forward or defending. Meaning Cancelo’s offensive output exceeds both Kounde and Balde’s respective strongest attributes. He’d be a starter for me.

  3. I don’t understand how Cancelo is not considered one of the best fullbacks in the world. He’s got pace, passing, dribbling, shooting, the will to always attack… under proper management, he could regain real momentum.
