The Cherries have met Newcastle United twice in the FA Cup. The first game was on 30th January 1973 and it was away up in the North East, it ended in a 2-0 defeat. The second time we met was on the 4th January 1992 and the game was at Dean Court, which ended 0-0. The replay was 18 days later, up in Newcastle. It should have been a week earlier, but the game was abandoned due to fog. The replayed game ended 2-2, but the Cherries won 4-3 on penalties.

The Magpies have a good record in this competition, winning the trophy six times. The first time they won the Cup wasn’t at Wembley Stadium but at Goodison Park, Everton’s old ground, after beating Barnsley 2-0 in the replay. This was after the first game was played in London at Crystal Palace, which finished in a 1-1 draw.

The first time Newcastle United won the FA Cup at Wembley was the 26th April 1924. Again, the score was 2-0 and their opponents were Aston Villa. Then, in April of 1932, they beat Arsenal 2-1. It was another 19 years before they won the trophy again in April of 1951, when they beat Blackpool 2-0. One year later, on the 3rd of May 1952, United beat Arsenal 1-0. On the 7th May 1955, Newcastle United won the FA Cup for the sixth time, beating Manchester City 3-1.

They have been runners-up seven times. First time was at Crystal Palace on 15th April 1905 when Aston Villa won 2-0. Other winners against United were Everton, Wolves, Bradford City, Liverpool, Arsenal and finally on the 22nd May 1999, Manchester United beat Newcastle United 2-0.

In all competitions against Newcastle United, AFCB have W 6, D 9, L 7.

Newcastle United Team News
Emil Krafth, Dan Burn, William Osula, Anthony Elanga, Jamaal Lacelles have all been out injured. The latest addition to their list is Fabian Schar.

Newcastle United Player To Watch
Bruno Guimaraes, their captain, has scored in their last three games.

AFCB Team News
Besides those longer-term issues we know about, the most recent was losing Justin Kluivert with a knee injury that requires/required surgery.

AFCB Player To Watch
With two goals in two games, both Evanilson and Junior Kroupi will hopefully be paired again in the FA Cup game. It was against the Spurs when both players were on the pitch together when they scored. Against Arsenal, Kroupi scored just after Evanilson was subbed.

The Referee
Thomas Bramall is in charge of this game. He has taken two of our home league games this season, the opening home game against Wolves and the game against West Ham.

I think we should go there and field our strongest possible team because we know Eddie Howe won’t.
We are almost safe in the EPL and the FA Cup should be our biggest priority now. – To join the conversation, please click here.
