Not specifically related to the linked story, but I do think it's time to make a change.

There's something wrong with the squad at present. I just don't see why this many players, who have all thrived here or at other clubs in the past, can all be this bad together, all at the same time.

I'm concerned that Nuno never brought in his own staff. Recruiting someone from the youth setup is to be applauded, to give that pathway/connection between them. But to lift much of the youth setup into the first team seems off to me.

Look at Maresca for instance, when he left Chelsea, six senior coaches left with him. And Rosenior brought three senior coaches with him, and that's in a multi-club model, where you'd expect more consistency.

I'm not saying we'd get Maresca, but what we need is an experienced manager who can come in with a full team of coaches and reset things, improve players, and set standards. I think it could have more of an impact than new signings, which is just adding more ingredients to an untended pot.

And no I don't have a perfect replacment, because there are none, all the available managers have failed before, that's why they're available. Terzic often comes up, but I don't know if he'd come to us.

  1. If they don’t have faith in Nuno then they need to do it now, no more faffing about. Go get Carrick, or Slav, or whoever they believe will do a better job now

What’s the point. It’s not just the mangers position the whole club from the board to the dressing room to the pitch is rotting before our eyes.

We will become a revolving door….. he had proven success in the PL so if we can’t back him by this point then we become a bigger joke than we already are

The last thing we need is another Manager/ Coach change. He is a seasoned Manager that did well at Wolves and Nottingham Forest. We need to bring in new players that he wants which we have started to do. Off-load the dead wood – Kilman etc. Then we need to give him time to unite the squad, get them to gel and play as a united and in-sync team. I also think the responsibility of Captaincy should be removed from Bowen to allow him to concentrate on scoring goals.

  4. I agree that a manager should bring his own coaches if that’s what he wants, the issue with our situation is if we sack Nuno, what good (or even sane) manager is going to want to come to us? We’re in an uphill relegation battle where 3 managers have failed in 2 years and our owner is a notorious meddler and cheapskate. It’s hardly an inviting prospect for a manager who wants to be successful.

  5. Agreed. Nuno looks lonely, Board fucked his appointment.

We need to bring in next manager’s staff as well.

The managers own coaches are a very important part. Look at us under Moyes when he had his assistant Alan Irvine we were doing well and then when Alan left the drop in performances came.

I think Nuno has only got in the goalkeeping coach so far, and I hear there are legal reasons/cost as the reason the other staff have not joined.

Getting a new manager now you’re basically looking at someone who you’d be willing to commit to also being able to bring us from the Championship if we go down (which we will). I think Nuno would bring us up straight away if we went down so I’d prefer keeping him then reassessing if needed. Spend that money on centrebacks rather than a new manager.

We’ve not heard the definitive proof of why Nuno doesn’t have his coaches (though we can all believe it was because Sullivan was too tight to pay them off from Forest) but various other things, like his main man now being at Wolves (and having improved them massively according to their fans) and them not joining him at West Ham due to them being annoyed with the way he sought his Forest exit.

Whatever the truth is, the bottom line is he is massively, massively underperforming. The buck stops with the board but they have backed him (Pablo signed for a kings ransom whose dad used to play with Nuno and both Mendes clients) and I’m not sure he has bought these players with staying up in mind. We play too defensively which exacerbates the mood in the squad when we go down because they’re being coached not to attack (you can poo poo this as much as you want but look at the analysis of our shape – we’re far far too compact and too far back).

We don’t have a ‘leader’ on the pitch and some players seem to have carte blanch to make mistakes (Kilman to a degree. He’s cost us nearly a goal a game but Mavropanos doesn’t get half the leeway Kilman does and Paqueta can stink the place out and play the next game) and none of that is down to the board, other than the fact they hired Nuno because Sullivan refuses to pay compensation for a manager.

Personally, I’d dump Nuno and get someone in who’d attack teams for 6 months. At least have a go because we’re not going to get out of this mess by being defensive. See if Big Ange fancies 6 months in London again with a few mill bonus if we stay up. Either that or get a young, project manager in and start planning for life in the Champ and possibly lower.

I don’t see any manager coming in and making significant improvements. If Nuno is happy to stay with us in the championship (I wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t fancy it) then I’m fine with sticking with him. He’s still a decent manager but we need to get out of the win now mentality and accept the reality that short term things will be a bit shit and let him try and build something from the ground up
