Arne Slot and the Liverpool hierarchy are under increasing pressure after a series of uninspiring performances. With ongoing issues with Mohamed Salah bubbling behind the scenes and the worrying injury record among their defenders, there is scrutiny over whether the Dutchman can continue leading the Reds forward.

Antoine Semenyo, a player who was mooted as a successor to the Egyptian, is one step closer to his move to Manchester City after undergoing a medical in the North West on Thursday. Liverpool have been widely reported as a club who admire the Ghanaian international, however, they are set to miss out on the attacker with their rivals swooping in to land the Bournemouth star.

Liverpool also face competition from Pep Guardiola’s side for Marc Guehi. The Reds saw their deadline day deal for the Crystal Palace captain fall through after the South London club pulled the plug on the deal.

City, who have fresh injury problems with Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol out injured, are said to be progressing in talks to land the defender. Guehi is out of contract in the summer, leaving Palace in a difficult position where they have a matter of weeks left to recoup funds for the defender, otherwise lose him on a free.

Liverpool reach agreement for defender

Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement to sign left-sided centre-back Mor Ndiaye. Fabrizio Romano has claimed that an agreement has been reached for the Senegal defender.

The ECHO exclusively revealed in recent days that Slot’s side were progressing in talks to sign the 17-year-old. Ndiaye will join Rob Page’s under-21s while Amara Nallo could leave the club on loan, as a result of his arrival.

Liverpool have already made a defensive addition this month after Noah Adekoya, 19, signed from Burnley. He, too, will form part of Page’s defensive options.

According to Romano, Ifeanyi Ndukwe has also signed for Liverpool after a deal was struck with Austria Wien last week. The ECHO also reported that the move will be official in the summer.

Arsenal join race to rival Liverpool for Marc Guehi

The Mirror’s John Cross has reported that Man City are red-hot favourites to land Guehi from under Liverpool’s noses, but they face fresh threat from Premier League title rivals, Arsenal.

The Gunners have joined Bayern Munich and the Reds in the battle to sign the England international, however, it remains to be seen whether Mikel Arteta’s side will bide their time and wait until the summer or pounce for a move at a discounted rate this month.

Arsenal already have a wealth of options at the back after the north London club strengthened in recent windows, landing Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera last summer.

The pair have made appearances at the heart of defence for Arsenal following injury problems for William Saliba and Gabriel. However, Arsenal remain big admirers and appear to not be put off by already possessing solid defensive options.

With City enduring injury problems of their own, Palace know they can demand a fee close to £40million, the bid that was initially accepted by Liverpool. Oliver Glasner is the subject of intense scrutiny over his own future at Selhurst Park amid reports that he could leave in the summer and join Manchester United, with Palace also having to deal with interest in their skipper as they chase European qualification this season, as well as campaigns in the FA Cup and UEFA Conference League.
