Gunnerblog has finally cracked on Gyokeres, and not because he’s not scoring, because he’s just standing still and making absolutely no runs, especially frustrated at the crosses into the box with no one attacking them.
It should also be noted how difficult weather conditions were yesterday to make accurate passes or even maintain a balance when running with the ball. No wonder both teams ended up with sth like 0.4xG and didn’t manage to score
Doing some deep analysis of this game is virtually pointless
Dropping Gyokeres is gonna be Arteta’s next big managerial decision moment.
I know someone is gonna say we’ve won x amount of games with him so this is an overreaction but I want us to win the league so badly and this guy is doing nothing towards us doing it. I knew he would start yesterday but I had been saying all week I wish he wouldn’t because wasn’t it just the most obvious thing ever that he would get absolutely 0 change out of Van Dijk and Konate? Like their easiest game of the season since the reverse fixture? I could understand it if it was just them because they’re two of the best in the world but the only CBs in this league I’ve seen him get the better of are Burnley’s.
He’s got an incredibly unique combination of weaknesses including poor holdup play, poor aerial ability both in winning headers and converting them, poor strength at this level, very slow for this level, cannot find space in the box ever, can never make a proactive run which confuses a defender in the box, can’t run in behind PL defences, can’t get any shots off and probably more im forgetting.
It will be easy for him to remove Gyokeres once Havertz is back but it needs to happen sooner IMO. We are winning games in spite of him. Again people will scoff at this but he genuinely goes through games with an incredibly low number of touches, and a mind bogglingly low number of shots. Wrestling with defenders and sometimes drawing space away is not anywhere near good enough when in 6 months you’ve not developed any kind of on pitch chemistry with a single teammate.
Merino and Jesus up front are heavily flawed players yet they still offer so much more and can actually combine with other players. Havertz is in a different stratosphere to Gyokeres in this regard. Merino’s pass to Trossard against Spurs is miles beyond anything Gyokeres has done in an Arsenal shirt, his header vs Chelsea is miles beyond any CF play I’ve ever seen from Gyokeres.
I’m not saying any of this to be mean, I get why people want to support him and I hate being on the same side of the argument as the bed wetting doomers on literally anything but at some point you have to open your eyes and see what is going on here.
The desperate race for people to clutch their pearls every time something with a hint of controversy happens is utterly exhausting.
Our cf position currently is a big void, you can feel how useless it is on the pitch, Gyökeres is awful but Jesus came on 2 games in a row and he was just as invisible as Gyok. Hope Havertz is back soon and he will perform like he is used to

Whats your guys thoughts on the Guehi rumors, I think its a good idea that we get him because when you think about it we need another box-box midfielder like Declan Rice so there are two options we could go in for An Anderson for £50m-£70m and have some of that money gone out of the budget or we get Skelly to drop down as a box-box to cover Declan Rice and get Guehi to come in as a LCB for £35m and have the money either go to a LW like Barocla or hate to say it (although I think the majority is down to the playing style and him not having a pre-season) potentially another striker, although I expect that to change if Gyokeres actually has a full preseason. So I think it makes sense we go in for Guehi, so our back line would look like the following RB: Timber/White RCB: Saliba Mosquera LCB: Gabi/ Guehi LB: Calafiori/Hincapié and then we save money on a world class midfielder because we very much have one as Skelly and he would only get better in that position as he would be training with Rice and then that means we could prioritise money where it needs to be put like the LW as its like a roller coaster at times very good, but then not good.
Timber in the right half space between Gyokeres and Saka has never once convinced me. It’s probably just temporary because Calafiori isn’t there but still isn’t working too well for me
