Everton have lodged an appeal against Michael Keane’s red card in the 1-1 draw with Wolves.
The centre-back was contentiously sent off, after a review by VAR, for pulling the hair of striker Tolu Arokodare in an aerial challenge late in the game – a decision manager David Moyes labelled “ridiculous”.
As a result, the Press Association understands the club have submitted an appeal to the Football Association in the hope it will be overturned and the defender will be allowed to play in Saturday’s FA Cup tie at home to Sunderland.
Jack Grealish will definitely miss that game after his sending-off for two yellow cards for dissent in three minutes in a chaotic finish.

Moyes is already without Senegal duo Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Seamus Coleman, Jarrad Branthwaite and Charly Alcaraz are injured.
“I don’t think anyone can believe it. The referee said the letter of the law is if you pull someone’s hair, it is violent conduct but I think there has to be an act of violence for it to be violent conduct,” said Keane’s fellow centre-back James Tarkowski.
“We all know Keano, he is the nicest fella around and never intends to do anything. I know what the rule is but I didn’t see any intent there.
“I think it is a really poor decision. Hopefully we can get it rescinded.”
