West Ham United have reached a verbal agreement with Callum Wilson to terminate his contract at the club this month, GIVEMESPORT sources understand.

The Hammers are in a fierce relegation battle and currently sit seven points adrift of safety in the Premier League following a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night, and that has seen the club spark into action in the transfer market, with Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe both arriving earlier this month.

Those arrivals have seen 33-year-old Wilson fall down the pecking order at the London Stadium following his arrival last summer as a free agent, and he is now set to depart after holding talks with the club.

Wilson has scored four goals in 18 appearances for the Hammers since his arrival, but GIVEMESPORT sources understand that his pay-as-you-play incentive-driven deal is costly to West Ham, and that has contributed to limited minutes.

The arrival of forwards Pablo and Castellanos convinced both West Ham and Wilson to part ways, and it’s understood that only small details remain before Wilson becomes a free agent once again.

GIVEMESPORT understands that Wilson is open to options in both England and abroad, with Championship outfit Leicester City considering a move to boost their bid for promotion back to the top flight. The Foxes are currently four points adrift of the playoff places after a slow start to the season.

Wilson, who has been described as ‘prolific’, is also on the radar of Saudi side Al Shabab, while Al-Ettifaq hold a historical interest and are monitoring the situation. A lot will depend on Wilson’s wage demands with Saudi clubs increasingly reluctant to spend big on wages in January, especially on over-30 players.

Hammers boss Nuno Espirito Santo has already hinted Wilson has fallen down the pecking order, where he revealed that he has held ‘honest’ talks with the player.

“Me and Callum, we had a lot of conversations. Two strikers have joined. I personally decided these strikers.

“Callum is a very experienced man, he’s been in the game for so much time, he knows that his position has changed. We were honest with each other.“

The club are not done with additions this month either, as they continue to chase a deal for Fulham star Adama Traore. The club made an initial approach for the winger, who is out of contract this summer; however, GIVEMESPORT understands that so far the east London club are unwilling to pay the £7m being demanded by the Cottagers.
