The transfer will represent the biggest sale in the club’s history, and will result in AFC Bournemouth getting more than the release clause in the Ghanaian’s contract, the Daily Echo understands.

The clause is for £60m, but, as City will need to pay over 24-month instalments, it will be worth £62.5m.

There is an additional £1.5m in bonuses in the deal, with the Cherries also getting 10 per cent of any profits made on a future sale.

The clause was added to Semenyo’s contract when he signed a new deal in the summer, which has meant the club has been able to keep him for an additional six months, and the club see the 21 appearances and ten league goals as invaluable for their season.

The sale in January is also higher than any offer received for the forward in the summer.

Bournemouth were also able to ensure that Semenyo has played the three games in January before leaving, which has proved valuable to the club this season.

Those three games, against Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs, have seen the Cherries pick up four points and end their 11-game run without a win, with Semenyo scoring the winning goal against Tottenham in stoppage time last night.

Semenyo becomes the fourth player to depart the Cherries for a Champions League winner, with players joining the four most recent winners of the competition.

That is Milos Kerkez to Liverpool, Illia Zabarnyi to PSG, Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid and now Semenyo to Manchester City.
