Leeds United went close to extinguishing any last glimmers of West Ham surviving in the Premier League before losing 4–3 with Newcastle United at St James’ Park. It could have been so much worse, with the Yorkshire side leading going into injury time. Somehow Eddie Howe’s Magpies pulled the game back to win in the 104th minute of a game which seemed to go on forever.

A win would have taken Leeds a whopping eleven points clear of the Hammers and effectively killed any hope of a late-season shoot-out when Daniel Farke’s men visit the London Stadium on May 24.

Scott Parker’s Burnley also edged closer after securing a draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford. At one point they were ahead and had leapfrogged West Ham into 18th place.

West Ham Left Isolated at the Bottom

Wolverhampton Wanderers drew with David Moyes’ Everton, meaning Nuno Espírito Santo’s side were closed in on during this gameweek.

Such is Leeds United’s form and swagger that most bookmakers are now giving West Ham just a 10 per cent chance of remaining in the top flight. That said, the dramatic late win for Newcastle could give the Hammers a glimmer, if only we could get our own house in order.
