"[It's] a very big game," Gakpo told Liverpoolfc.com. "I think the game itself is very big but regarding our situation as well it's a big game for us to show what we can do

We try to do that the whole season and sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. But I think [with] the situation we are in it really has to work in this game. In some [different] ways it's a big game."

On the next target being to climb the Premier League table…

That's the mindset and how it should be. We need to go game by game and keep climbing. That's what we're working towards together every day again and even though sometimes the results are disappointing, or the performance is not as good as we want it to be, we stay together and we keep working towards that goal.

On leading the attack as a striker against Fulham…

I enjoyed it. It was a long time ago for me that I played there. It was good. I can do whatever the team asks me to do and I will do whatever I can to be the best version of myself and to try to help the team as much as I can.

On scoring double figures for club and country this season…

That's a good achievement for myself but I think the main focus from me and the whole team is the situation here and I think we can do so much better than we are showing. Everybody knows what we did last season, but I think we as a team also feel the quality we have and we sometimes show [it] in games and especially in training, but that has to come out in every game. Then it's not about the figures but the enjoyment we will have on the pitch and to show everybody what we can do.

On it being three years today since his debut for Liverpool…

I didn't reflect yet, but I think it's a nice mark. Three years and we've been through a lot with the whole team and the whole club. [We've had] very good moments and also very low moments as well. [I've had] lots of experience and hopefully we can make many more beautiful memories.

  1. I wish he showed some ability to adapt his play. He hurts team cohesion even when he is hitting the mark

  2. He was tracking back and running his ass off last game. I guess that’s what he should be keep doing

Gakpo is a bang average one-trick pony (and his trick is almost never effective) that’s overrated by Slot. Other than the purple patch during the middle of our prem-winning season, he’s been very, very disappointing.

“It’s a very big game… it’s a big game for us to show what we can do”

    – Apart from Man City last season, Gakpo never shows up in big games. For example, see 23/24 FA Cup quarterfinal against Man United. He’s also lazy and doesn’t put much effort in games.

“We need to go game by game and keep climbing”

    – Actions speak louder than words, a carefully worded PR response by Gakpo. Unfortunately, his performance is not improving. He is stubborn and never adapts his playstyle. He doesn’t do anything other than cut inside which opponent defenders know how to block. He doesn’t use the overlap and doesn’t mix it up. Despite all this, Slot will start him regardless. Unfair.

“I can do whatever the team asks me to do (as a striker)”

    – Don’t be fooled by the fact that he scored against Fulham. He didn’t play well at all. If you watched the game, I’m 100% sure you’ll agree. Gakpo has a very limited skill set.

Also I must say Gakpo is extremely lucky to score double digit figures for both club and country. Well for country, it is easy to score against Malta or Luxembourg no offense. Especially when you have great teammates like Van Dijk, Gravenberch, Frimpong, Reijnders, De Jong etc. As for Liverpool, most of his goals are tap-ins and he’s lucky to be in a good position during these easy (for professional football players) tap-ins.

Selling Diaz wasn’t a mistake, he wanted out of Liverpool and his wage demands were high. No good keeping a player who wants to leave for a few seasons now. Our mistake was not replacing him properly.

Not selling Gakpo is however a mistake. Let’s hope Liverpool can get a LW to shove Gakpo and Slot out of the team.

If Eki is fit, I hope our front 3 will be Wirtz Eki Frimpong against Arsenal.
