Presonly I get it, but it also feels like we are happy with a mid table finish this year, build a little more in the summer, basically taking baby steps.
Still I think it's a massive risk when the league is as close as it is.

Can’t believe he doesn’t think we desperately need fullbacks, they hinder our attacking threat so much! I get there’s probably not a lot of quality on offer in January but surely we could do a loan?
I dont think we need much to get Europe. Not getting at least a right back on loan seems like a missed opportunity to me
I can see what he is saying. We do need players but we have to do it properly and not over spend. January is fucking awful for overspending.
It’s a negotiating tactic. If we announce we’re in the market and ready to splash cash, prices will be higher. If other clubs have the mindset we’re going to be scrupulous, they’re less likely to inflate prices.
From a long-term perspective, consolidating mid-table this year might be the play. It’s easier to find value in the summer market. And say we do make Europe this season, we’d need a miraculous summer window to get the squad depth required for PL and Europe.
He said the owners wanted us to not buy short term ie panic buy. This is the philosophy we need. Moyes was never going to do all the work in 2 windows. If we fill in the gaps next summer I think we’ll have an European contender squad. In Moyes We Trust. Patience Blues.
I love what we have done this year and appreciate the honesty, but not bolstering the squad at key positions like RB when we need O’Brien in the middle just feels like it lacks ambition as a club and shows how desperate recent times have been. I don’t want to see us get complacent because we are simply avoiding relegation this year
We’re going to play the whole season with no recognised right back. Criminal waste of a promising season.
In fairness, what would he say? “We’re wildly desperate for reinforcements and we’ll pay whatever it takes to make that happen in January. Additionally, I think fan expectations should be through the roof, as I anticipate a Messi-like talent will be brought in before the window closes.”
I suspect we’ll be as active as the market enables us to be, based on needs and costs. I would expect they have targets identified in areas of need, approaches will be made, and if fair deals can be reached, we’ll make those deals.
It must be grim for him. He worked under a miserly, cheap cunt the first time around, and now he’s working for rich owners who still don’t really have any ambition.
