Competing for the treble last season had nothing to do with the real treble of 2009-10 and actually winning it.

Last season, Inter threw away the two easiest domestic trophies in Italian football history. Napoli under Conte were one of the weakest league champions the league has ever seen. A team with Meret in goal and a defense of Jesus, Oliveira, and Rrahmani, that sold their best player mid-season and replaced him with players who would not even start in Serie B. They played once a week and still went seven straight matches without a win at one point, yet they still took the title from Inter.

And let’s not forget the Coppa Italia semifinal against a struggling Milan side sitting ninth in the league, knocked out of Europe by Feyenoord, yet they beat Inter 3-0 while we produced a disastrous performance.

Then there was the Champions League final. The coach went in with no real preparation and no clear plan for facing PSG or their stars. The result speaks for itself.

It was also a season where we failed to beat Juventus, Milan, Napoli, and Bologna, and dropped points to Roma and Lazio. A season where we were truly excellent in only four matches, the games against Barcelona and Bayern.

All of this tells you that it could never be considered a great season, even if we were “competing” for the treble.

Personally, I supported the previous coach for three and a half seasons and stood by him in the toughest moments. But last season was catastrophic by every standard, and it does a disservice to even compare it to Mourinho and Moratti’s legendary campaign.

  1. Oh yeah, glorious 2009/10 when we were destroyed by mighty Catania and were 5 minutes from not even qualifying for the knockout stage in a group with powerful Dinamo Kiev and Rubin Kazan. Not to mention we never even beaten Roma, Sampdoria, Bari as well… We won a championship with just 2 points more with a win int he last round.

“Only” difference was that we actually won at the end, but as my memory serve me we had only one point less than 2010. It’s just that Roma won 80 that year and Napoli won 82 last year.

  2. Good thing no one is really comparing them then. Thing with champions league is that there was just as likely a chance we played Aston villa or arsenal in the final so can’t really say we shouldn’t have tried to reach the final rather than win the league.

  3. Despite this, the championship was won on the pitch, thanks to the refereeing and VAR errors that also caused the audio to disappear.

  4. I hope you find your inner peace or whatever you are looking for.
Basically you are apparently a fan, who thinks it’s good that we didn’t win last year, because we were too bad and we’ve all got to be honest about that…like what?! you ok?
Please go to tell this (specially about honesty😂) in Napoli, Juve, Milan, Barça,… reddit, not here.

I just want to state a fact: Inzaghi’s so-called tactics came at the expense of the players’ physical fitness and individual skills. The players spent a lot of time practicing tactics but didn’t improve their individual skills. As a result, Inter Milan had the fewest dribbling attempts in the league last season, and the players’ individual skills seriously deteriorated, making them less valuable on the transfer market.

The players didn’t have time to train their physical fitness, and after 70 minutes of each match, they were completely exhausted and couldn’t run anymore, leading to defeats. After three seasons of this neglect, most players became prone to injuries and were unable to perform at their best.

  6. Pretty sure everyone disagreeing is just still emotionally attached to Inzaghi lol. OP just stated facts.

  7. No one is comparing it to the treble season – it would be unfair to. That being said, calling it a disaster is unfair given the feat itself. Obviously, everyone is results focused but getting there is an accomplishment. Many of our fan base do not realize we are riding a golden generation waive right now lol. We have arguably one of the top 8 teams in the world right now and can likely beat anyone on our day. I’m not saying parts of last year were not a failure but I’m saying we do a disservice to the club and players if we call it a disaster.

If Dumfries is healthy all year we most likely win the treble. Footy is a game of fine margins.
