I’m not often a great fan of his. Showed some promise early in his Juve career. Yet his ‘joker’ routine off the field, running to hug like a child, remote controlled cars…always felt incongruous to the hope of building a side of strength, professionalism and focus. Also that scene after Zak’s goal, where Weston adjusted from mega celebration to complete straight faced when the cameras were turned…that theatre a poor trait.
We have tried to ship him out twice. Awful at Leeds. Then we treated him badly when returning, again sought to get rid, he refused. Annoying, as I had followed Barrenechea since we first signed him and sent to Sion, and always liked his grit…Weston, to his credit, did give us 2-3 months decent form in that next season, when few others did likewise.
A bit more hit an miss this term, questions asked of his weight, which have come up before, and yet with Spalletti, we have seen a solid McKennie. Not spectacular, but his game has raised, his focus seems steady and he looks like he is enjoying himself again.
Maybe he is playing for a new contract, and so what eh? The longer his good form continues the better. He is certainly giving his all and offering value of late. Deserves some credit for this.
At the same time, the fact that he is our best RWB is a sign of our times…The whole defensive line needs vast improvement, after years of mistakes, which echoes across the squad unfortunately.
Weston’s versatility and natural areas of strength are suiting this role under LS, tending to cut inside higher up, which is working.
I hope he continues to bring value. Wish him well. He can be a decent player and has been of late.

Hes proved his worth multiple time, maybe he would not be a starter for 14-15 juve but that time is over now, he deserve another contract imo, even if we get “better” player i cant see them offering his versatilty.

His contract is up in july. Im not a fan of his but I think he has done enough under spaletti to earn a renewal considering how desperate we are in midfield. Bit of a rabiot situation. We tried to offload him for years and now he starts making an impact. If he wasnt so loose with posession he could be a very decent player but i think his flaws are a fundamental part of how he plays so you cant really iron those out without losing the unpredictabilty that makes up for the flaws.
If he had a really solid playmaker to offload the ball to he would be a very good defensive midfielder. He wins a lot of 50/50s and gets on the end of passes well but he almost always follows that up with loose passes that get cleaned up easily. If he could focus on winning the ball and making forward runs off the ball while someone else did all of the dustribution we could get so much more out of him. He is very frustrating to watch though as an all rounder. Very yin and yang.
