Arsenal suffered a major defensive setback ahead of their clash with Brighton as Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber were both ruled out due to injury.

Calafiori picked up a late issue during the pre-match warm-up, forcing a last-minute change that saw Myles Lewis-Skelly step into the starting lineup. Mikel Arteta described the problem as an “awkward” feeling that left the defender uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, Jurrien Timber was unavailable after landing awkwardly during Arsenal’s Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace. Arteta revealed the Dutch defender “felt something” and was withdrawn as a precaution.

With injuries piling up, Arsenal’s depth will be tested during a crucial run of fixtures.
