With Liverpool’s poor form this season showing no signs of letting up, captain Virgil van Dijk has had to front up his fair share of the criticism – but what has actually happened to the legendary defender? 1. Great video. The polybius analogy is nice but I’m not sure it makes total sense. If I’m not mistaken you use it to illustrate the cyclical nature of tactical trends but to me you insinuate (which I would agree with) tactics are going in a linear direction of no return to more physicality. Also a bit nitpicky but Polybius was not a ‘genius’ he was writing retroactively praising Roman government (his patrons) and largely criticising Greek governments. His cycles theory is a cool metaphor used to praise Roman government but it’s not really historically sound. ❤
