An absolute legend of the game man. I'm so happy Giroud played for Chelsea, instrumental for our UCL run. And man that overhead against Atletico.
1:08 Just to specify what Olivier meant by "leading", he meant that France always scored first and maintained the scoreline advantage, the only exception being against Argentina, who took a 2-1 advantage between the 48th and the 57th minutes.
France were indeed great in 2018, England would have given them a better game than Croatia did I'm sure of it but still lost. The best world cup teams though were Brazil 1970 and Spain 2010. Different in so many ways but the top.

The France team of 2018 put Croatia to the sword no problem in that final. Makes you wonder what they would have done to England if we'd got there.
The force of this 2018 WC French team comes from the frustration of their defeat at Euro 2016. Deschamps transformed a possession playful team into an unreadable block. This France could defend very well with Varane and Kante, and then explode in attack with Mbappe sprints, Pogba long pass and Griezmann intelligence. Giroud selfless and hardworking spirit was also the symbol of this team.

Very underrated player. He was such a hard worker and could score some World class goals. In that world cup he didn't score but was so important in allowing Griezman and Mbappe to really showcase their talent

The truth of the matter is without Giroud in that team no world cup for France, he was so unbelievable with his touches though didn't score but his contribution was enormous
Let's be honest, if you put Kante into any of the other top 4 teams in the tournament, including Belgium, they would have won the World Cup instead of France. He WAS that team.

As Croatian, I say you didn't deserve it. We got robbed by referee, Griezmann first dived, that wasn't penalty.
So, as a football fan, I would never ask anything Spanish players in 2024, France 2018 etc single question or mark them as hero, because you dived for every touch and you were lying like a babies. This is machiavelism, not fair play.y
Cucurella touched the ball with the hand, no penalty for Germany. And so is the case, when you know that ref is on your side and we knew that FIFA didn't like Croatia in WC Final, so they decided to do anything to mark France as World Champions.
Giroud, you lifted the trophy, but we are moral champions. Noone cares for that type of victory, because it's not fair play.

I became a believer during 2018 WC when France beat Argentina. I only still have 1 star on my shirt and I flocked it with Kantรฉ's name. Such a great and humble player. If it was not for him, it would have been Giroud. Such a shame Grizou's history finish like that with the national team…
Giroud was the tower control of the team with Mbappรฉ launching the rockets on the side, either from Griezmann or Pogba. Add a great defense on top and this was an unsolvable problem for any team back then. This is why they leaded all the games throught the competion, except for 8 minutes, before Pavard screamer against Argentina.
