Here it is! Episode 1 of our new show Dissected…in which I (Umir) go back and dissect in detail all the parts of a footballing event. Today The England Euro 2020 Loss to Italy is dissected.
In 2021, Italy claimed a first European Championship since 1968 after goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saved twice in a dramatic 3-2 penalty shootout victory in the Euro 2020 final against England at Wembley on Sunday. England went up 1-0 early on thanks to a Shaw finish before the game ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes. Donnarumma saved penalties from Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka –before Marcus Rashford also missed by hitting a post with his spot-kick — to give Roberto Mancini’s team glory in London.
Given England’s impressive tournament run and the fact they were 1-0 up to begin with, why did England end up faltering at the last hurdle?
Umir tackled this question in the first episode of our new show Dissected, which premieres today! If you like our videos, then you’ll love this show; it’s our most ambitious video project to date.
