There's one thing that isn't being spoken about. Black goalkeepers, including myself, on average tend to be a lot shorter than our white counterparts. That's why there are far less black goalkeepers than White's. I quit football due to my height. I'm 5'10 and that's quite short for a goalkeeper. There are many African goalkeepers that are my height that struggle with this issue.
Prime example, Itumeleng Khune. South Africa's first choice keeper between 2009 and 2018. He was arguably in the top 5 best keepers in the world at his peak, however his height was an issue for European scouts.
Scouts do not want goalkeepers under 6'1. You have to be extremely lucky to to make it if you're under 6 feet.
Mendy is been treated this way because he is black.

As a Chelsea fan I am feeling really humiliated. Mendy is arguably the best keeper in the world rn, give him the respect he deserves. Even if you don’t think he is the best keeper, the real ones will always see him as a great keeper and if FIFA doesn’t give him the respect he deserves, true football fans will always know how hard this man has worked to go from nothing to the top.

We are all kidding ourselves if we believe that racism will end one day in every aspect of life. Everything mentioned about Mendy and other African players is still a kind of systematic racism. I don't think black people or athletes will ever get the recognition they deserve till the world ends. This hits harder after the Carabao cup final they lost against Liverpool, Mendy was exceptional during the whole game and for some reason the coach tought it was better to replace him at the 118 min for Kepa. I know Kepa has a reputation as a penalty stopper, but come on, you have a goalkeepr that has been consistent and exceptional for the whole season and you think that the sub gk who is in a perfomance dip will do better? Definitely a strong bias there.
When I was in high school, the most impressive keeper my team ever played against was black, and i honestly tried to see if he went pro after graduation because he deserved to. Fuck racism
