Woods had been fronting ITV’s build-up to the Lionesses’ clash with Ghana in Southampton when she suddenly leaned forward and was caught by colleagues Ian Wright and Anita Asante.

The broadcast cut away immediately, though viewers briefly heard audio of Wright checking on her before the programme moved to an advert break.

In Woods’ absence, Katie Shanahan stepped in to continue the coverage alongside Wright and Asante, who told viewers that Woods had “taken ill”.

“As you have probably noticed we don’t have the wonderful Laura Woods because she’s just been taken ill but she’s in very good hands so I’m stepping in at late notice,” Shanahan said.

ITV has not yet issued an update on Woods’ condition.
