This isn't the first rodeo, we've made mistakes, lost games, and then said after that we need to stop making mistakes, then Pope goes and does that in the Champions League of all games. Enough is enough. The Champions League isn't the place where you make mistakes and learn from them.
For the last 10/15 minutes at 2-1 down we need to be more brave, hoy big Dan in the box and get it in for him and Woltemade, use our height and physicality to our advantage!
Willock, Barnes and Thiaw can walk away feeling they have done okay. Rest can hang their head in shame. Eddie Howe what the hell are you telling the players? Why can they not play the same way after they score? Are you telling them to play it safe? What do you even tell them at half time? Why can not you drop under performing players? Why can not you start with the strongest squad and sub them off if they need rest? Why do you always have to do a hail mary after things gone tits up? Why do you have to always be reactive instead of proactive? Do you have anything else besides 4-3-3 or 5 at the back? Why is Dan Burn playing ahead of Botman?
Everybody is blaming Pope and it wasn't a good decision to come out but there's a few other things to look at for both goals which no one is talking about but I'm sure the coaching staff would've highlighted.
1. Straight from that kick off Tonali or Livramento have to get tighter on that second ball because Bakola is allowed to turn easily and play that killer pass. As we've seen with Neuer with the Martinelli goal, when a goalkeeper is instructed to sweep those mistakes can be made.
2. Livramento can do so much better against Weah who is strongly right footed to stop the cross. He can show him inside or at least get a block in.
Unfortunately Pope's form hasn't been great recently but as the skipper has said, the team has been saved multiple times by him so I think it's unfair just to say the loss was his fault. There were more than enough chances to go 2 up in the first half so collective responsibility must be taken.
Big game against Everton upcoming, the matches come thick and fast so I hope the players aren't dwelling on any previous results.
